If there is one Harley-Davidson motorcycle that would personify the classic styling, large displacement, and the true spirit of the American heavy cruiser, it would be the Road King Classic. The bike shares much in common with others in the touring line and with the Road King in particular. Of particular note are the full size, classic fenders, the full-length floorboards for both riders, oversized, 6-gallon gas tank, and classic two-up seat. For 2009 the Road King Classic retains its 16-inch front and rear laced steel wheels and wide-whitewall tires. Tooled leather covers the seat trim and the leather-covered saddlebags. Touring features auxiliary passing lights and, unlike other members of the touring lineup, standard cruise control. Two-tone fender graphics are new for this year as is a new license plate bracket which fixes the tag directly over the tail lamp. The Road King Classic is one of the largest motorcycles [...]

The Electra Glide Standard is still one of the most popular Harley-Davidson touring models sold today. As with the other members of the Electra Glide family, this model gets a redesigned frame that is designed to increase strength, reduce vibration, and enhance overall ride quality. It is stronger and can safely handle an increase of 70 lbs in load capacity. Designers coupled the all-new frame with a new swingarm, wheels and tires, and engine mounting system, which allows the chassis to create a foundation for an all-new long-haul touring experience. The key styling elements of these motorcycles, however, are essentially unchanged so that the distinctive character and mechanical beauty of each Touring model is preserved. The 96 cubic-inch engine features a new isolated drive system and is [...]

In an effort to enhance an already proven design, Harley-Davidson revisited their Road King in 2009 and made a number of changes, some small, some large. None of the changes, however, resulted in an adulteration of the core spirit of the Road King, specifically a blend of touring comfort and aggressive style for a new generation. Classic styling touches include the chrome, 5-light Hiawatha headlamp and clear-lens auxiliary passing lights, chrome engine covers, a deep-skirted FL front fender and white-stripe tires. The seat has been restyled for 2009 with chrome accents and a new low-mount license bracket locates the plate below the tail lamp, with new LED license plate illumination. The traditional straight-up Road Glide windshield remains unchanged as does the tank-mounted electronic speedometer/odometer combo with integrated clock. Still featured front-and-center are classic styling cues like full-length rider and passenger floorboards, a detachable Lexan windshield, and injection-molded GTX hard saddlebags. [...]

The 2009 Harley-Davidson Road Glide retains its Shark Nose image, its power, and its touring comfort while providing the added benefits of stability and ride quality with the integration of the new frame. The good news doesn’t stop there either as minor upgrades throughout the bike take an already good platform and make it great. While style tweaks and new models tend to dominate the headlines of biker magazines and bring traffic into Harley-Davidson showrooms, the company decided to enhance the entire lineup of touring motorcycles with a completely redesigned frame and swingarm. This new backbone is welded robotically and was engineered to provide better structural support for bikes like the ’09 Road Glide while actually reducing the number of component parts which make up the frame. The goal of the touring motorcycle engineering team was to enhance the line so that there was no discernable wobble or vibration at [...]
