2009 Harley-Davidson V-Rod Reviews

America's favorite cruising dragster hybrid is back for more in 2009. Harley-Davidson engineers left the V-Rod pretty much unchanged from the previous edition with only minor tweaks to the platform.

The motorcycle is still powered by the only liquid-cooled engine Harley makes...the 1250cc Revolution V-Twin. This power plant is rubber-mounted and sports chrome covers. Built to operate at a higher range than its air-cooled brethren, it puts out 84 ft-lbs of torque at 7,000 rpm.

Exterior styling points include chrome slash-cut right-side exhaust, sport front fender and low profile rear fender, a two-piece, two up textured seat, forward mounted foot controls, stainless steel pull-back handlebars...and more. The V-Rod rolls on a fat 240 mm rear tire and a smooth-flowing exhaust system ends in bright chrome slash-cut mufflers. The low-riding seat and leg-forward design elevates the rider just 26" from the pavement. The pull-back handlebar frame, clamshell instrument pod, and teardrop reflector optic headlamp are all features which are iconic to this Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The bike is raked out to 36 degrees, 49 mm forks hold an anodized aluminum profile laced front wheel. The V-Rod is available in nine color combinations, including new Red Hot Sunglo, Flame Blue Pearl, Vivid Black/Pewter Pearl, Flame Blue Pearl/Pewter Pearl, Black Ice/Blue Ice, Light Candy Root Beer/Dark Candy Root Beer, and Big Purple Flake/Brilliant Silver.

'09 V-Rod Specifications

The aftermarket scene has already begun to put their finger on the '09 Harley-Davidson V-Rod. Standard improvements include upgraded exhaust system, engine enhancements, and other aesthetic changes. Many feel that the V-Rod is not a good platform for customization as the focal point of such modifications is the traditionally large gas tank, a place which is held by the smaller air-box cover on the V-Rod. This is not a hard and fast rule, however, as companies like Trask Performance have made kits which relocate the V-Rod gauge cluster from the handlebars to the top of the air box. This provides a cleaner look as well as performance functionality. At just $450, this type of upgrade won't break the bank either.
