2009 Harley-Davidson Rocker Reviews

For over four decades Harley-Davidson enthusiasts have been taking stock H-D® bikes, raking them forward and adding other tweaks/changes in order to create custom choppers. This trend has increased in recent years and the 2009 Softail Rocker is the bike that was crafted by Harley-Davidson engineers to be a production "custom" motorcycle for the rider who wants the look-and-feel of a chopper but may not have the time or money to invest in a one-of-a-kind project. It offers authentic hard-tail chopper style with innovative ideas that could only be produced by Harley-Davidson.

A noticeable trait on this bike is found in the Rocker rear tail section which features a wide fender mounted directly to the swing arm. It hovers just an inch over a big 240 mm x 18-inch rear tire allowing both the fender and wheel to move in unison as the Rocker glides along cushioned by 3.4 inches of rear suspension travel.

A new monochromatic silver stainless steel powder-coated paint scheme highlights the custom look. The solo seat is situated 24.5” off the ground which set this bike among those with the lowest seat height available on any motorcycle on the market at the time. The stop and tail lamp functions are both integrated with the rear turn signals thus eliminating the need for the more traditional tail lamp on the rear fender.

The Rocker is powered by a rigid-mounted Twin Cam 96B Engine that puts out 87.9 ft-lbs of torque at just 2,750 rpm! It maintains a fuel efficiency rating of 54 highway/35 city through proper design and the Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection system. This air cooled Harley engine is matched to a 6-speed transmission which sends all the power to the large 240mm wide rear tire.

This Softail features a stretched, low-profile console, "horseshoe" style oil tank, chrome staggered exhaust system, one-piece solo seat, and forward mounted footpegs. Harley-Davidson produced the ’09 Rocker in only four color schemes which include: Vivid Black, Flame Blue Pearl, Black Denim, and Crimson Red Sunglo.

The Rocker was added to the Softail lineup in 2008 and for some reason Harley-Davidson chose to make the bike side-by-side with its twin the Rocker C which features a few visual changes and, more importantly, a stowable rear passenger seat. The Rocker C proved to be the more desirable of the two in the minds of the buying public and 2009 was the last year that the standard Rocker was made.
