2009 Harley-Davidson Road King
First Reviewed August 19, 2009 Found in Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Reviews, Touring
In an effort to enhance an already proven design, Harley-Davidson revisited their Road King in 2009 and made a number of changes, some small, some large. None of the changes, however, resulted in an adulteration of the core spirit of the Road King, specifically a blend of touring comfort and aggressive style for a new generation.
Classic styling touches include the chrome, 5-light Hiawatha headlamp and clear-lens auxiliary passing lights, chrome engine covers, a deep-skirted FL front fender and white-stripe tires. The seat has been restyled for 2009 with chrome accents and a new low-mount license bracket locates the plate below the tail lamp, with new LED license plate illumination. The traditional straight-up Road Glide windshield remains unchanged as does the tank-mounted electronic speedometer/odometer combo with integrated clock. Still featured front-and-center are classic styling cues like full-length rider and passenger floorboards, a detachable Lexan windshield, and injection-molded GTX hard saddlebags.

The most significant difference is the redesigned frame which Harley-Davidson engineers feel is stronger, more durable, and enhances the overall ride experience of this touring motorcycle. This new chassis is set to deliver precise responsive maneuverability, increased capacity and greater comfort for rider.
The Road King is still powered by the 96 cubic-inch air-cooled V-Twin coupled to a 6-speed transmission. Electronic fuel injection comes standard in an effort to increase fuel efficiency and performance. New front forks and rear shocks were integrated to better handle road conditions and the bike's wheels get upgraded to cast aluminum with Dunlop tires.
Carryover color options are Vivid Black, Dark Blue Pearl, Two-Tone White Gold Pearl/Pewter Pearl and new color choices made available by Harley-Davidson from the factory for the 2009 Road King include Red Hot Sunglo, Two-Tone Flame Blue Pearl/Pewter Pearl, Two-Tone Red Hot Sunglo/Smokey Gold.Reviews for the 2009 Harley-Davidson Road King are found below. I looked at the Yamaha Roadliner, Roadstar and the 2009 Road King Classic. The Yamahas are fine machines, especially for a metric. What ultimately sold me on the Road King was the fact that the fit and finish, quality of workmanship on the Harley was better than the Yamaha and the materials used on the Harley was real steal and not aluminum. Once on the Road King, the torque and the solid feel gave me confidence that was lacking on the Yamahas. With the windshield off, it turns into a classic cruiser. The the winshield and passenger backrest back on and going two up, it is the finest touring machine on the market. If that weren’t enough, while the Yamaha resell value continues to go down year after year, the Road King still holds its value. When you keep hearing “it’s just like a Harley” over and over again, eventually you just get a Harley.
