2009 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider Reviews

For 2009 Harley-Davidson decided that Dyna Low Rider had enough demand to continue production for an additional year. This classic motorcycle, with roots reaching all the way back to the ‘70’s, features long, low styling and easy handling. Its 25.8” seat height provides a low center of gravity, the stylized low-profile suspension and raked-out forks add to the effect. Pull-back handlebar riser, mid-mount foot controls and standard highway pegs combine to provide a functional ergonomic package which is results in a high level of comfort over the long haul.

Low rider styling was born and bred in owner’s garages and chop shops, Harley-Davidson had little choice other than to tip their hat at well known builders who provided the company a foundation for this platform and then start building their own line of lowered bikes which would ultimately share in this success.

On one hand the 2009 Dyna Low Rider is pretty much reduced to its bare necessities where comfort and performance are concerned. Looks, on the other hand, are given quite an upgrade when compared with other members of the Dyna lineup.

Where performance is concerned, the 2009 Dyna Low Rider is powered by the air-cooled H-D® Twin Cam 96 with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection matched to a six-speed transmission. With 92 ft-lbs of torque at 3,000 rpm, there's plenty of power to move this 641 lb bike quickly through back road curves or accelerate from a standing start. The extra power and smoother engine feel of vibration isolated Dyna Low Rider powertrain should please the Sportster rider looking to step it up a notch but not so much that the power may feel uncontrollable.

The overall layout of this Harley-Davidson motorcycle provides a low center of gravity via the integration of the 25.8-inch seat height, stylized low-profile suspension and raked-out forks. Pull-back handlebar riser, mid-mount foot controls and standard highway pegs add to functional ergonomics and long-range comfort.

The Low Rider produced in 2009 is smooth with modern cut lines but a link with the past can be seen when you notice similarities with early models which a trained eye will pick up on. For example, the black 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels resemble the original mag wheels, the iconic Fat Bob fuel tank, and the low-rise handlebars hold closely to the original as do the chrome staggered shorty dual exhaust system.

Modern elements which deserve praise include the headlight which is small but effective, the front fender which nicely contours around the custom front wheel, and the powder-coated engine which sports light-catching chrome covers. Without a doubt the engine is this bike’s biggest advantage over any member of the Sportster family (in both performance and looks) and if you read the reviews below you’ll find that the extra cost associated with the bigger V-Twin is not an obstacle.

'09 Dyna Low Rider Specifications

The Dyna Low Rider was discontinued by Harley-Davidson after 2009 without much explanation. While the company is continually trimming models here in order to make space for new ones there, it is speculated that the Dyna Low Rider actually had less profit potential for the company because of all it’s chromed-at-the-factory elements which did not need to be replaced by ordering from the expansive H-D catalogue. Whether this is true or not it does speak to the fact that the Low Rider may be the Dyna which packs the most value as a stock motorcycle coming off the assembly line.

Harley-Davidson chose to produce the ’09 Dyna Low Rider in 7 color combinations which include: Vivid Black, Black Pearl, Red Hot Sunglo, Two-Tone Vivid Black/Mirage Orange Pearl, Two-Tone Black Ice/Blue Ice, Two-Tone Light Candy Root Beer/Dark Candy Root Beer, and Two-Tone Big Purple Flake/Brilliant Silver.
