Harley-Davidson CVO Reviews

A common drive that runs through the veins of thousands of Harley riders is the desire to customize their motorcycles. Faster, stronger, better...and better looking is the mantra of this unique subset of bikers. Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles exists to meet this unique but powerful demand.

The Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) shop was brought online by the company in 1999. CVO motorcycles are typically ramped up in every way. They receive larger engines that produce more powerful across the full range of operation. Unique features which provide additional performance or additional comfort are added, and of course, a custom paint scheme is always applied to set each Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycle apart from the crowd.

A lot more goes into a CVO motorcycle than just a larger engine and a fancy coat of paint though. Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles are built by hand by a single craftsman who moves the bike through the various stages of assembly. Each element of each motorcycle is going over in painstaking detail in order to ensure that these machines are the highest quality bikes that Harley-Davidson makes.

Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles are offered in extremely limited numbers. In the first 10 years of production the Custom Vehicle Operations division of the company only produced 26 different models. Since 2007 Harley-Davidson has been offering four different models each year and due to increasing demand it is expected that the company will continue to do so in the future.

The seven newest review sets for the different members of the Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycle lineup can be found below. A link to all CVO motorcycle reviews (organized alphabetically by year) can be found at the bottom of this page. If you have had the chance to ride one of these legendary machines, please write a review of your own as there are not many people who can offer first-hand knowledge about the very unique Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Each year the Harley-Davidson CVO team picked a few models from the main lineup, overhaul them, and then release them as premium editions that have a lot in common with their roots but plenty to stand out as well. While the Road Glide has been a member of the CVO lineup twice in past years it was last seen in dealer showrooms in 2000. After a nine year hiatus, the H-D management team decided that it was time for the Road Glide to once again have its turn in the spotlight. Here’s some of the highlights. As with most models in the touring lineup, the CVO Road Glide has arrived on the scene in 2009 with a newly redesigned frame. This new backbone is more adept as providing a smooth ride even with the the 110 cubic-inch Screamin’ Eagle powerhouse settled in. New front fork and rear shocks also are [...]

The 2009 Harley-Davidson CVO Softail Springer one of those bikes which gets such a resounding welcome from buyers that it gets produced for more than one year. As in ’08 the Custom Vehicle Operations team hand built limited quantities of the Softail Springer custom-styled motorcycle and infused it with classic styling from nose to tail. The bike is based on a totally unique frame design with wide, fully polished and chrome-plated swing arm, fully polished chrome cast aluminum oil tank and a host of premium components and accessories which allow it to stand out in the arena of custom-from-the-factory motorcycles. Without a doubt the two most noticeable features on the ’09 CVO Softail Springer are the custom springer front fork and the conical air intake but the bike is also fitted with a custom seat, wheels, and bobtail rear fender. The front end is comprised of an iconic springer suspension [...]

Every year Harley-Davidson riders say that the bikes coming out of the Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) division can’t get any better and every year the team tries to prove them wrong. One of the limited edition models on the 2009 lineup is the Screamin’ Eagle CVO Fat Bob. This loud and flashy bike comes with plenty of power and with the entire motorcycle weighing in at only 728 lbs soaking wet, it’s built to be one mean machine. The original H-D Fat Bob, which debuted in 2008, was the prototypical anti-cruiser. Think of it as the slimmed-down, yet muscled up, MMA fighter of the motorcycle world. It comes from the factory with a beefy 16″ front wheel, alternative tire treads that seem to have a dual-sport purpose in mind, and the iconic double headlight. While not every Harley-Davidson motorcycle is a hit, the Fat Bob ended up being a home [...]
